She must be shook to be stepping in, so I guess above all else she won't allow the Porter to be destroyed. Honestly, I'm a little surprised it can be, but that's a different conversation.
Yeah. Mitchell says she hasn't made herself known in the time I was gone, and in the time I was here, the last time she spoke to us was when the last world was being destroyed — when she saved us from it.
After all this time... that she's had to intervene means *all* of us would be dead and gone.
Guess it's a good thing no other crazies and their 'destroy the Porter' ideas have succeeded thus far.
[That this enemy may be the present form of Vulcanus is something Duo has considered before. He wonders if her intervention has anything to do with that.]
Idiots trying to interface with the Porter. Again. Went about as you'd expect.
The only useful thing that came out of it was supposedly, there's a different consciousness within the Porter now. We could call it her child, I guess. Male voice, apparently.
As for her, according to that being, she's "somewhere else" in this universe. Another person or what that entails for her, it's not clear to me. I don't know that form even matters for a god like her.
Hmm. Maybe? But as far as this world is concerned, that device existed here before we arrived. Whoever "he" is, he could have inhabited their Porter before we arrived. Like how Clotho existed in a separate universe's Porter.
But your existence alone is proof that she must have left some connection with that Porter.
I'd wondered that, but it seems to be a cover. Supposedly, Lachesis is the one that taught them to create that Porter, in order to bring the remnants of us from the City. Her influence on this world rewrote its history, including that tidbit. How much else is difficult to tell, I guess. And how much of this being's story to believe.
That's why I've found it difficult to believe she wasn't within it anymore, but it may be that she wields a wider influence in some way. Whether she's simply within the fabric of this reality, or however you want to logically perceive it.
But I guess now we know for sure that she's here, regardless.
Oh. That sounds like her. Rewriting the reality of the world to suit her needs, I mean. You were gone before she rewrote the history of the City's world, weren't you?
At least she's consistent.
So how are we going to use this gift of hers? This second chance. There has to be a way to prevent it from going to waste.
Ugh, you might as well not even bother with Stark. His range of usefulness is extremely narrow.
[ She once asked him to kill a dude and he did. It was awkward. ]
Mitchell's very much a politician, so you probably won't get him into an active front-line position, even if he was that kind of hero a long time ago. But he is a really powerful technopath. He's never told me the full breadth, but he can hear machines for miles around. I'm certain he can talk to them, in return.
For the sake of the world, you might be able to get his help.
Stealing his shit was always more useful anyhow. [Speaking of which, the fact that Stark had the closest thing to an ability to recreate mobile suit technology meant Duo was never going to give him the inch he needed, nukes be damned.]
Well, I tried to grab attention with that early warning, and you can see how that went. At this point I assume he's probably got his hands full trying to use his position to convince the military to get into action, which is as much as we can probably hope for in terms of positive influence but
How do I put this, I'm not expecting much.
[Technopath, though. That wasn't the least useful power in this situation....] Think that includes talking to a nuke?
Straight to the missile? I don't think he has that range from Earth. If you can get him something that can get into contact with it — or, I don't know, machines with information about it, there's a chance? He knows his limits better than I do.
We're going to check the moon first. I did as subtle of a sneak-around of that moon base as I could when it first opened, but I couldn't be too sure I was overlooking anything.
And besides, we can't be sure that base is the only thing there, either.
If it's not that then I have a few other ideas, but it's hard not to be influenced by the colonization history of my home solar system. It's a wide net. It would be too convenient, I guess, to have some way of narrowing it down. I need to go over all the details again and see what I might be missing.

Reminding us who we belong to, huh?

I have ideas, but I need more information. Being Earth-bound like this is really inconvenient to combat an orbital weapon.
What I'm trying to say is we're going to do something really stupid, probably, so remember me as I was: right all along

Anything I can do to help? Empathy isn't much against a nuclear fucking bomb, but I'd rather not die, too.

God(dess) does have a sensor of humor, #ibelieve
[He sighs to himself, long and ragged. He always felt hypocritical telling anyone not to throw themselves into things, but....]
Any idea what the other veterans are up to? I don't know Hundred too well, and Stark
Well, you know.

I'll have to see what ships are available. [for, yanno, stealing] This time period is a little archaic and leaving Earth's orbit might be tricky.
